Carla's Caramels

Ingredients:

2 cups white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup light corn syrup, such as Karo

1 cup milk

1 cup butter or margarine

1 cup half-and-half or whipping cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

  • Mix together all ingredients except vanilla in large pan over medium-high heat
  • Cook to 248° F on candy thermometer
  • Remove from heat, adding vanilla
  • Pour into buttered cookie sheet with sides or jelly roll pan
  • Allow mixture to cool
  • Cut into pieces and wrap in waxed paper or cellophane
