Full-lifecycle development for customer reporting system. ETL (Data Extraction, Transformation, and Load) processes created using Oracle 9i PL/SQL. Business Objects universe and report development using Business Objects Web Intelligence 6.1.

Business Intelligence Consultant, February 2003 - December 2003:

For multiple clients:

  • Standardized customer reporting using Business Objects 5.1 on existing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Oracle data marts.
  • Constructed Business Objects universes using Designer.

Technical lead for three-tier intranet financial system and operational data store (ODS) for corporate data warehouse. Responsible for project sizing, development, on-call support, team mentoring and documentation.

Participated on 12-month data quality initiative. Created storyboard design for redesigned web interface. Facilitated reduction of monthly fiscal closing period by converting general ledger account code format from obsolete mainframe format to new ERP format and improving query performance of extracts using table partitioning. Designed automated data purging process. Performed security audit, restricting database access using roles. Technologies included Oracle 8i, PL/SQL, TOAD, korn shell scripting, and cron on IBM AIX server.

Enhanced custom ETL application program using ANSI C++, Oracle 8i, and Rogue Wave SourcePro and SourcePro DB on IBM AIX server. Converted data loading paradigm from direct database access to use of stored procedures.

Upgraded first generation Active Server Pages (ASP) for compatibility with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 using Microsoft Visual Interdev 6.0 with ADO/RDS, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), HTML/DHMTL, and VB-Script. Upgraded CGI interface to UNIX server for compatibility with Visual C++ 7.0 (Microsoft.NET). Created migration plan and server configuration document for upgrade Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) web application from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000.

Database Architect, November 1998 - December 1998:

Led customer through requirements gathering, analysis and design of client/server automated call center system. Designed and implemented data layer using Oracle 7.3/HP-UX platform including referential integrity constraints, stored procedures, triggers for automated data logging and performance denormalization. Used SQL*Loader and Perl to load data from legacy system and created reports using SQL*Plus to verify legacy data accuracy.

Technical Lead, August 1997 - November 1998:

Lead developer of individual and team full-lifecycle web projects using Microsoft Active Server Page technology to create dynamic data-driven web sites using Microsoft Visual Interdev 1.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 on Microsoft Site Server 3.0/NT 4.0 platform. Responsible for project sizing and mentoring of team members. Worked closely with non-technical product managers to create and document system requirements. Gave oral presentation to senior management of high-level design strategy using Microsoft Powerpoint. Created stored procedures for existing SQL*Server database. Performed cross-platform testing using multiple versions of Netscape and Microsoft browsers. Analyzed existing designs and site usage to recommend and implement performance enhancements. Additional technologies include ADO, HTML/Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, Perl, VB-Script, and Microsoft Visual Source Safe.

Software Designer, February 1996 - July 1997:

Created platform-independent class library (DLL) for full-text indexing and integrated into commercially released Internet utility, providing index and search capability of user's browsing activity using Verity Topic API. Created Intranet site for project documentation. Converted suite of common components from static libraries to dynamically-linked libraries (DLLs), including dialog-based test programs to automate testing of common components. Technologies included Perl, HTML, Microsoft Visual C++ 4.1, Microsoft Visual Source Safe, Rogue Wave Tools.h++, and on Microsoft Windows 95 and NT 4.0 platforms.

Programmer/Analyst, March 1995 - February 1996:

Enhanced and maintained a bankruptcy claims information system (CIS) using Oracle 7 on SCO UNIX platform. Consulted with a range of internal and external customers to gather requirements for various forms, reports, and programs using SQL*Forms 3.0, SQL*Plus, and SQR. Developed reusable object libraries in SQL*Forms for standard user-interface components, data validation, and table lookup. Reduced nightly batch processing time by 50% by application of various optimization methods. Increased data reliability by creating database constraints and an automated auditing system developed using database triggers. Migrated PL/SQL code from SQL*Forms to stored packages to facilitate client's planned re-deployment of system in a client-server environment. Created documentation for system implementation and programming conventions.

ANALYST, Cincinnati, Ohio, October 1993 - March 1995

Developed retail distribution systems using Oracle 7, SQL*Forms 3.0, SQL*ReportWriter, SQL*Menu, Pro*C, C-Scape API, C-Tree API and C on IBM RS/6000 AIX (UNIX) platform. Designed program modules, stored procedures, and database triggers using System Architect CASE tool. Created unit test plans and project documentation, performed unit and system integration testing, and accelerated application performance using explain plans to optimize queries.

Designed and developed Distributed Configuration Manager allowing process migration across a network of Silicon Graphics IRIX (UNIX) workstations. Obtained funding for project through AFOSR research grant. Research based on the Condor Distributed Batch System developed at the University of Wisconsin. Applied object-oriented analysis, design and programming techniques using C++. Used UNIX signal handlers and modified COFF (Common Object File Format) executable files. Designed graphical user interface using OpenGL API. Re-engineered existing portions of project from C to C++ to improve software maintenance.
