See all of our waterfall pictures!

We made our first trip to Transylvania County and Brevard in June 2002 on our way to Savannah, Georgia to visit friends. Transylvania County is home to literally hundreds of waterfalls. Using the book North Carolina Waterfalls: Where to Find Them, How to Photograph Them, we managed to visit three waterfalls that were easy to find and photograph: Connastee Falls, Hooker Falls, and Looking Glass Falls.

Brevard is the home of Brevard College, which puts a nice "college town" spin on the local cuisine. The Bracken Mountain Bakery, in the heart of downtown, offers a variety of artisan breads, plus sweet and savory pastries. Nearby, the Peppermill Cafe offers breakfast and lunch, with real pepper mills on each table. And October's End, overlooking Lake Toxaway Falls, offers an array of American and Italian-inspired dishes.

The Ultimate Internet

The most spectacular dining of our visit was at the Pisgah Inn, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway with awesome views of the mountains.
