Dewey's Pizza LaRosa's Pomodori's Pizza |
Cincinnati Pizza Here are our picks for the best pizza in Cincinnati. We've savored Pomodori's Pizza since our college days at the University of Cincinnati. Although the last time you could order two 12-inch cheese pizzas for $5 was 1987 (sigh), Pomi's wood-fired pizza never disappoints. For your first visit, we recommend the prosciutto wood-fired pizza and a freshly made spinach salad. The pizza is topped with thin-sliced Italian prosciutto (a cured ham), mushrooms, and purple onions on an olive oil crust. Save room for the surprising apple pizza for dessert. In addition to the wood-fired pizzas, the menu is completed with a selection of sandwiches, fresh salads, homemade pasta, and Sicilian and Chicago-style deep dish pizzas. Pomi's is a favorite (and frequent) pick in the reader polls of Cincinnati Magazine and CityBeat. Everybody loves LaRosa's pizza, which many living outside of Cincinnati fondly recall as "the pizza at King's Island." The pizza sauce is sweet and the original-style crust is thin and crispy, although we generally opt for "hand-tossed" or pan. Our most recent pizza discovery is Dewey's Pizza, which is attempting to take pizza to "the next level" according to their advertising. The wait staff is warm and friendly, and your children will be amused watching the kitchen staff toss pizza dough through the large window near the entrance. Dewey's encourages you to get two kinds of toppings on your pizza. Our two picks were the mushroom and barbecue chicken pizzas. The house salad was fresh, with mixed greens, pine nuts and dried cranberries. The homemade house dressing, a balsamic vinaigrette, was the perfect accompaniment. When we saw the menu boasting of desserts from Cincinnati's famous BonBonerie bakery, we couldn't resist ordering the opera cream torte. Yum.
