See more pictures of Oxford, Ohio Oxford has all of the hallmarks of a college town, with nostalgic brick streets and a diverse collection of restaurants, cultural activities, and landmarks. Oxford is located in northwest Butler County, 35 miles north of Cincinnati and 45 miles southwest of Dayton. It is predominantly known as the home to Miami University, a state-assisted university of 16,000 students. There's lots to do whether you're visiting for parents weekend, attending a football game, or just wanting a short day-trip out of Cincinnati. While in the Oxford area, take a short drive north on Ohio 732 to Hueston Woods State Park. The park has over 200 acres for hiking, camping, swimming and boating. Hueston Woods also features an 18-hole golf course. However, we advise skipping the restaurant at the lodge and visiting one of several excellent restaurants in Oxford. Because of its college roots, everything from fast food to fine dining is available in Oxford. For a quick bite, we suggest basic, but satisfying pizza and pasta at Brunos Pizza or a visit to the Skyline Chili parlor. A popular spot for campus dating is the Kona Bistro and Coffee Bar. Kona features American fare with a gourmet twist, including many vegetarian and vegan dishes. Our favorites include the barbecued pork chops with sweet potatoes and spicy jambalaya. Kona also features a unique assortment of coffee beverages and desserts. Fiesta Chara offers authentic Mexican food in a warm, kid-friendly atmosphere. Try the shrimp quesadillas.
We were sad to see Mary Jo's Cuisine close, but became ecstatic when Paesano's Pasta House opened in its place. Paesano's is all about pasta and all about freshness. You can't go wrong with the mushroom risotto. The Governor's Room at the Alexander House, a local bed-and-breakfast, promises "gracious dining" and does not disappoint. The wait staff is outstanding and so are the gourmet selections. We enjoy the monthly lobster "blowout". Reservations are strongly recommended.
